Red Friars is a private dance group that meets in the ballroom facility at the Iowa State University Memorial Union and dances to live orchestras, performing in the big band style. Dances can include Swing, Fox Trot, Waltz, Rumba, Tango, Cha Cha, Mambo, and Polka as well as some others.
The elegance of the ballroom and music is reflected by the members who attend wearing evening attire—evening or cocktail wear for women and dinner jacket, tuxedo, or business suit for men.
Although a private club, guests are welcome. If you are interested in joining us for a wonderful evening of dance, click on the membership button at left.
Founded in 1934, the Fall of 2008 marks the beginning of the Red Friars' 74th year as a club. Red Friars Dance Club was incorporated as a non-profit corporation on February 12, 1991.
